How to read this PvP tier list

No Global server has statistics yet: the game has been in early access since 30 September. So we cross three things: official Korean rankings (AION 2 META studied 2,400 ranked characters in the Abyss and solo arena), analysis of the Global client’s skill kits (MetaBot), and opinions from players, creators and Korean forums. The Global client carries Korean skill values up to 16 September; in Korea, PvP damage was cut by 30% for every class (8 July) and healing reduced in arenas and the Abyss, which will need checking on Global.

A class does not have a single rank: the Assassin is S in duels and C in mass warfare, the Cleric the opposite. Hence three lists, one per format.

Lists disagree because they measure different things: a kill ranking rewards the Assassin that isolates its targets, while a mass battle rewards range, area control and healing. AION 2 META also corrects for popularity by comparing each class’s share of the tops with its share among all ranked players.

Arena of Solitude: the duelists

1v1 duels

At equal gear, first to 3 points. The Sorcerer is S on paper but B in practice in Korea.

On official Korean rankings the Assassin and Gladiator also lead (AION 2 META), and Shugo.GG puts the same two classes in S for Global. Game8 adds the Ranger. MetaBot, which judges kits, rates the Sorcerer S instead thanks to its 10 s Polymorph and 5 s of immunity.

Arena of Cooperation: 5v5

5v5 small groups

One life: control, healing and protection matter more than raw DPS.

AION 2 META notes that the Cleric is the most over-represented class in the team-arena sample while being last in solo: its group rank is far better than its duel rank.

Abyss and Strategy Arena: mass warfare

Mass battles (Abyss, 10v10)

Area damage, range, group healing and staying useful under enemy spells.

Wikirealm also ranks Templar, Cleric and Ranger S for the Abyss, while MrRosaPony and XifanGG put the Assassin at C in mass fights. In the Strategy Arena stats are normalized: your gear matters little, and it is the best place to test a class without a big budget.

Strengths, weaknesses and profile of each class

ClassPvP strengthsWeaknessesPick it if…
Gladiator20 m gap closers, knockdown chains, Tenaciousness (3 s immunity), drainMP in long fights, kited, least useful in mass fightsYou love duels and diving
AssassinStealth, 20 m opener with control, burst on isolated targetsFragile, a failed opener loses the fight, weak in massYou hunt isolated targets
TemplarPulls, stuns, party shields, great enduranceKills slowly, little mobility, very unfavorable against a good GladiatorYou protect the team and hold the line
ClericHeals, Salvation, 60% anti-healWeak solo, vulnerable to burst and kitersYou play in teams and in the Abyss
RangerRanged control and damage, traps, Mother Nature’s BreathFew survival tools, stuck by a melee classYou love kiting and mass artillery
SorcererZones, Frost, Root, Polymorph, 5 s HibernationFragile, loses up close to Templar and GladiatorYou play behind a line
SpiritmasterFears, seal, 70% anti-heal, buff stealing, a spirit that tanksLow HP, melee burst, little mobilityYou like wearing opponents down
ChanterBuffs, cleanse, melee and ranged hybrid, Assassin-killerHard against Gladiator and TemplarYou want an offensive support

Who beats whom: the key duels

  • The Gladiator is the nightmare of Clerics, Sorcerers, Templars and Chanters at equal gear; its MP, which runs dry in long fights, remains its weak point.
  • The Templar crushes the Sorcerer and Cleric once in contact, but a good Gladiator beats it (Inven, 6 September).
  • The Spiritmaster is the Ranger’s hardest duel, while the Ranger kites Sorcerers and Clerics well.
  • The Chanter has a Korean reputation as an "Assassin killer"; the Assassin wins on its opener, and the Cleric and Sorcerer win in the long run if they survive it.

These trends come from Korean forums: they are player feedback, not statistics, and need checking on Global.

What differs in Korea

  • Korea: level 50, the Brawler (already S in the Taiwanese meta according to Shugo.GG), 6 stigmas at level 25; Global: level 45, 4 stigmas at level 20.
  • Cooperation Arena is 4v4 in Korea and 5v5 on Global; the 10v10 Strategy Arena is specific to Global.
  • Recent Korean Abyss modes (Rift Zone, Domination): their presence on Global is unknown.
  • Since 23 September in Korea, "Battlefield Might" replaces party buffs (Chanter, Cleric, Templar, Gladiator) during Abyss bosses: nothing announced for Global.
  • Some Korean players call the Assassin’s PvP "at its lowest" in September (Inven), even though it tops official rankings.

Starting out in PvP: what to play?

  • You want simple duels: the Gladiator, which heals while hitting and forgives mistakes.
  • You want to play in a team: the Templar or Cleric, in high demand in 5v5 and the Abyss alike.
  • You want mass battles: the Ranger or Sorcerer, behind a line of Templars.

Tips to climb

  • Make a separate PvP preset (skills, specializations, stigmas): the stigmas that work in duels are not your PvE ones.
  • Save Defiance (60 s, 5 s immunity) for the real control chain: Koreans treat it as an extra life.
  • Raise Accuracy and status resistance: a resisted control can cost the fight.
  • At level 45, the Azphel board adds up to 6% PvP damage and tolerance.

To practice, start with the Strategy Arena, then read up on the Abyss and PvP. Each class page offers PvP builds, and your recommended build follows your content.

Takeaway: in duels, Gladiator and Assassin; in teams, Cleric and Templar; in mass fights, Templar, Cleric and Ranger. These tiers come from Korea: re-check after the first weeks of Global PvP.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best PvP class in AION 2?

It depends on the format. In 1v1 duels, the Gladiator and Assassin lead; in 5v5, the Cleric and Templar; in mass warfare, the Templar, Cleric and Ranger.

Which class should I pick for arena duels?

The Gladiator is the most versatile and easiest to play; the Assassin has stronger burst but punishes a failed opener. The Templar is a tough, solid choice.

Is the Cleric good in PvP?

Excellent in teams and in the Abyss, weak in duels. It is the most over-represented class in team arena according to AION 2 META, yet last in solo.

Do Korean rankings apply to Global?

Partly: the Global client carries Korean skill values up to 16 September, but Global is level 45 with 4 stigmas at level 20, and its Cooperation Arena is 5v5.

Does gear matter in the arena?

Yes in 1v1, 5v5 and the Abyss: there is no equalization. In the 10v10 Strategy Arena, stats are normalized.
