AION 2: Elyos or Asmodian, which server should you pick?

In AION 2 a server hosts a single faction and a character’s choice is permanent: decide with your friends first, then take the closest region and a “recommended” server. The free transfers from 14 October let you change server within your faction, never faction.

Region, faction, server: how the choice works

When you launch the game you first pick a region, then a faction, then a server among those of the region (NC). Each server hosts a single faction: on an Elyos server you will not meet a single Asmodian in the capitals. NC has announced no region lock.

  • Europe: 9 server pairs opened between 30 September and 2 October.
  • NA East: 3 pairs (Siel/Israphel, Nezekan/Zikel, Vaizel/Triniel). NA West: 2 pairs (Siel/Israphel, Nezekan/Zikel).
  • Latin America: 2 pairs (Siel/Israphel, Nezekan/Zikel). Asia: Siel/Israphel open, two more pairs listed but not open on 2 October.

Up-to-date lists, with opening dates, are on the Regions page.

Neither faction has a combat advantage: same classes, same stats, same skills, and identical character customization. Only the story, the zones, the starting wings and a few item names change. So pick what you like, or what your friends pick.

Server pairing for the Abyss

Elyos and Asmodians only meet in the Abyss and in spacetime rifts. For that, each Elyos server is paired “for a limited time” with an Asmodian server: in the Abyss, your opponents come from your paired server. NC gives the example of Siel and Israphel. After launch it plans to pair servers by how far along and how strong they are, so pairs can change.

The nine European pairs above were open on 2 October. In Korea, a severe imbalance between factions led NC to create the “Chaos Abyss” in March 2026: servers are split into two camps, east and west, by power, and servers of the same faction can fight each other there. Nothing similar is announced for Global.

Population and queues: what we know

  • No official figure. NC does not publish server population. On day one of early access, players reported that Asmodian character creation was blocked on every server, and complained about being unable to join their friends.
  • NC keeps adding servers. A community manager answered that it was raising caps and opening servers, and that you can run instances with friends while waiting for transfers. Five European pairs joined the original four: Yustiel/Marchutan, Ariel/Azphel, Fregion/Ereshkigal, Meslamtaeda/Beritra and Hithanya/Nemon. NC advises creating your character on a “recommended” server rather than waiting for a spot.
  • Siel/Israphel draw the crowd. Mein-MMO notes that the big streamers concentrated on this pair during early access; queues there are logically the longest.
  • Korea: an imbalance existed. NC had to rework the Abyss in March 2026 to fix a severe imbalance between factions. Nothing says which faction will dominate on Global: a balanced server today may be less so tomorrow.

Which region? Latency and language

Pick the closest region: ping matters most for the Assassin and PvP. NC offers no per-language servers: you choose a region, not a language, and French, German or Spanish speakers all land on the same European servers. NC does not publish the cities of its data centers either. To play in French as a group, the simplest way is to agree with your guild or chat server before launch.

Transfers, friends and groups

  • Instances open across servers. NC repeats that dungeons and instanced content are accessible across servers: you can play with friends who stayed elsewhere. According to Mein-MMO, group finding is regional and mixes factions; in Korea, Elyos and Asmodians form one party in expeditions, Transcendence and sanctuaries since 11 March 2026.
  • Open world: same server required, so the same faction.
  • Transfers from 14 October. Free at first, between servers of the same faction. Early-access characters can only go to other early-access servers.
  • No faction change. To play the other side, create a character on a server of that faction. Launch and transfer details are in our free-to-play article.

Our advice for choosing

Your situationOur advice
You play with friendsSame region, faction and server; create your characters at the same time, since a full server can split you up.
You mostly play solo, PvEPick the faction whose story you like, on a recent or “recommended” server.
You aim for the Abyss and PvPFind an active guild first; your opponents depend on your server’s pair.
You hesitate between the two sidesNothing separates them in combat: choose the story and zones, then the closest region.
  1. Start with your friends

Same region, same faction, same server: a single friend from the other camp is enough to split you in the open world.

  2. Take the closest region

For French-speakers in Europe, that is the Europe region.

  3. Avoid the crowd

Pick a “recommended” or recent server rather than Siel/Israphel, where players and queues concentrate.

  4. Think about the Abyss

Your pair of opponents depends on your server and NC can change it; the 14 October transfers will let you fix a bad choice within your faction. See also Abyss and PvP.

NC has published no population data. Any “best server” ranking before the first week of launch is an estimate: trust your friends and the in-game indicators.

Then choose your class: compare the eight classes, identical in both factions.

Frequently asked questions

Can you change faction in AION 2?

No. A character’s faction is permanent, and a server transfer does not change faction. To play the other side, create a character on a server of that faction.

Can I play with a friend from the other faction?

Not in the open world: each server hosts a single faction. For dungeons, instanced content is open across servers and, according to Mein-MMO, group finding mixes factions.

Which server should I pick in Europe?

Your friends’ server. Otherwise a “recommended” server rather than Siel/Israphel, the busiest ones. NC has published no population figure.

When can I change server?

From 14 October, free at first, between servers of the same faction. Early-access characters can only go to other early-access servers.

Do Elyos and Asmodians have the same classes?

Yes: all eight classes, the same skills and the same stats. Only the story, the zones, the starting wings and a few item names change.
